2017 Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce Year in Review

Welcome to the GPCC 2017 Year in Review

The Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, the advocacy arm of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, celebrated another busy and exciting year in 2017. We advanced priorities at the federal, state and local levels of government in support of the Conference’s agenda to improve the economy and quality of life in the 10-county Pittsburgh region.

In 2017, we accomplished our top state policy priority by successfully advocating for the passage of historic state pension reform that will save Pennsylvania up to $20 billion over 30 years. At the federal level, we advanced GPCC’s priorities in the recently passed Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. We also successfully advocated to secure $5 million in initial appropriations funding for the Upper Ohio Engineering & Design Work, following last year’s passage of the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act. And locally, we continued our partnership with the City of Pittsburgh, the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Promise on the HirePgh workforce retention program.

These are just a few highlights of our 2017 accomplishments. They are achieved by working in close partnership with our public and private sector partners and through local, state and nationwide coalitions. I encourage you explore the full Chamber Year in Review which includes more information on our federal, state and local achievements, as well as our First Friday Speakers Series, three signature receptions, and elected and public official roundtables and events.

We look forward to working with you in 2018 to continue building off of this progress to create an even stronger Pittsburgh region. And, as always, feel free to reach out to learn how you can get involved in advancing our region.

Matt Smith

President, Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce

OUR MISSION

The Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce (GPCC), the advocacy arm of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, serves as the 10-county Pittsburgh region’s chief advocate at all levels of government to secure public sector investment and legislative and regulatory improvements to improve the economy and quality of life. The enduring contribution of the GPCC is its ability to bring people and organizations together around issues critical to the region’s competitiveness and, through a unified voice, effectively convey the needs and priorities of the region to local, state and federal decision makers.
